What is Igen Debrecen English?
The Innovative GENeration (IGEN) Debrecen is a 3-month-long business training for innovators, startuppers and social entrepreneurs in English. It is also a mentoring program. Along these 3 months we introduce the participants into the world of innovation and startups. Innovation is not just a thing that research centers do, it is a thing that you could do every day. Igen is for everyone who wants to be more self-conscious and become a creator.
From idea to implementation just in 3 months!
This will be our 6th training, but the very first one in English. Since 2014 we had 115 participants who created 26 startup companies. Many of them are still in business or have attracted investment, employ people and are vendors targeting the foreign market. And they enjoy the game all along. 🙂
Practical knowledge, learning by doing method—if that’s what you are looking for, this is the right place for you.
Do you have a really good idea? Apply as an innovator. You will get a team from the individual applicants so you could implement your idea with their help. Mentors will guide you through your project and will help you with the aims and focus points of your business.
Do you have plenty of creativity, some business experience or just want to use your knowledge in a new-born startup? Apply as an individual member. You will be part of the creation of startups. Plus there is the great network of alumni, the entrepreneurial community of Igen.
Do you have the team, the idea, but want traction and make everything more effective? Apply as a team! Your idea and team will be validated with hyper speed, your team will receive training and after that your product or service will stand on its own on the market.
Structure of the course
Besides the book knowledge we are focusing on the learning by doing methods of the participants and the practical wisdom of business professionals. The training is also a competition (like in real life) among the teams, and it will end with a final battle. During the 3 months you will work in teams and validate your business idea, create a useful business plan, a well-designed financial plan and a 2-minute elevator pitch. Besides the training sessions, you will receive continuous mentoring. The teams will compete in the last round in front of investors and business professionals, and the best of them will win tickets to an international startup event. At the end of the Igen Debrecen English course the startup projects will be ready to grow globally.
This is the most exciting part. First, everybody introduce himself/herself. Then there will be few tasks where you could get to know each other better. By the end of the training the teams will be founded. You will work in teams and practice the knowledge on your team and startup idea.

The first personal development training. You will use DISC, a leading personal assessment tool used by over 1 million people every year to improve work productivity, teamwork and communication. DISC is a non-judgemental tool used for the discussion of people's behavioral differences. You'll also receive tips related to working with people of other styles.

Success is 1% idea + 99% implementation. Your brilliant idea is worth nothing without an excellent execution. You have to go from 0 to 1. We talk about the importance of Vision; the best working management practices for Teams; and go through on a bunch of Getting Things Done techniques.
Every good idea needs a proper business model. The product can remain the same, but the business model may have to be adjusted in order to be successful. We will draw a roadmap together.
Money is a key component, not exactly the aim of entrepreneurship, but it is necessary for growth. It is needed for social entrepreneurs, for CSR and of course for business success. Learn to plan with it and have a financial mindset.
No one needs a drill. And no one needs a hole in their wall. We need to hang the family picture on the wall, and that needs a hole with a drill. You give value to your customers. What is value exactly? How could you define it? You need to validate every idea. And you will practice a lot during this course!
At half-time we will be critical with each other. We have reached a certain point, but where are we now exactly? Is this the same path that we planned at the beginning? You will get and give feedback from and to other teams, mentors.

For the last time preparing for the Pitch Fest we are holding a catapult event, where advice and good ideas are born. The result is a real catapult feeling, so the project could shoot for the stars. A lot of work will be required with these ideas :)
This is where past meets the future. Igen Alumni members will give valuable feedback on your project, they will tear it up, evaluate from different angles and help you with their business experience.
Every course’s highlight is the final Pitch Fest in front of a crowded hall and the jury. You have to prove that you made everything to be the best, and your startup gives value to people. One team will win the final prize, but everybody is a winner in the sense of knowledge, experiment and business mindset. As an individual you have a lot of experience, and as a team you might work together and build up a successful startup in the future.

Laszlo Suvoltos believes in the strenghts of goals, personal relations and in the strengths of communities. He is an entrepreneur, and a husband with many business ideas in mind. Laszlo is the founder of the Business & Beer event series; also manager of investment and startup incubation at EH Invest startup incubator, and co-organizer of Startup Week Debrecen. He used to live up in northern Europe, in Norway, this is where his motto came from: "There is nothing like bad weather, only bad clothes." Meaning that the solution is always within us.

I am a coach, a trainer and a senior lecturer. At the University of Debrecen I help students with the development of entrepreneurial skills, at Team Academy Debrecen course I work with group entrepreneurs. In my company (Diamond Coaching & Development Kft.) I improve leaders’ skills. I believe that there are diamonds in every company and any leader that could be the key to success. With polishing and defining these diamonds the leaders could be more self-confident in their everyday work. I support them with all the equipment of coaching and training methods. The core of my activity is community, organization, and leadership development.

He worked on the lean changing project and established the distribution at the company. Besides leading the company he is particulary interested in the next generation. I am 42 years old, for 3 years I have been an entrepreneur with a degree in economics and with wide range of experience in sales, marketing, coaching and management.
For 16 years I have worked at multinational companies (British American Tobacco, Heineken Hungary, METRO Cash&Carry). I started my “multi” career as a sales representative and finished as a head of a divison with 100-150 people.
Now I am the managing director and co-owner of Butiq, Pizza Vespa and Subway in Debrecen.
My professional fields are sales support, trade marketing, marketing, distribution, catering operation, business development, strategic planning and general management.
Since I was a child I definitely wanted to be an entrepreneur. My grand-grandparents and my parents were also entrepreneurs, so it wasn’t a miracle for me. I learnt a lot from them while I was just watching them what and how they did. After I finished college a straight road lead to set up a business which we cofounded with my wife in 2002 and since we have led together. In the last 15 years we have been through a lot of national and international successes and setbacks.

I am an architect and I was always attracted to BUILD something. The process of implementing, organizing, prompt problem solving, excitement and responsibility of decision making. These interests lead me to the construction company where I climbed the corporate ladder in 34 years. Now I am not just part of the decision making senior managers but also an owner who does one bit in strategic vision processes with the other owners. I am proud of what we have achieved, and the buildings that we have constructed, our family-like working environment which was made on purpose above all our senior and junior coworkers who fought and thrive with us along the way.
It was a long way to become a communication professional but I think it has been worth it. I am András Süli, culture correspondent and festival organizer. I was born in Szeged, and I have been living in Debrecen since 1984 with my family so I belong to Debrecen. I graduated as a lawyer and sociologist and I decided in early 2000 that despite my diplomas as a local civil organization member I want to deliver art as audiovisual experience for the audience. After my years in MODEM besides organizing the Campus Festival’s cultural events, I took an important part in creating the operations of Nagyerdei Víztorony and to develop its programs so that it could become a community workshop. The newest challenge for me is Debrecen 2023—Europe’s cultural capital project, in which we believe in a vision that could be a cultural and social phenomenon on the international level with its experience- based community and audience development ideas.

Aside from making advancements at the university in this field, as social entrepreneurs we created an association, the Local Entrepreneurs Supporting Community, became curator of TEDxDebrecen, co-founder of Innovative Generation program in Debrecen, opened the Debrecen HUB and created the Debrecen Coach Club.

I have worked for 12 year in the SME sector as a company lawyer and legal adviser. I took part in the creation of several approved project applications, and alongside I also implemented and managed projects. I am a proud mother of two young boys and living in my second marriage. I believe that I am a woman of solutions. My motto originates from Hannibal, whose generals said to him that it was impossible to get through the Alps. He replied, “Aut inveniam viam, aut faciam” (In English: I shall either find a way or make one.)

At my work as a business development project manager, I also implement brand-new visions that make the company move forward rapidly. In my opinion it is necessary to learn new points of view to make yourself become a more flexible thinker, which is why I like business strategy, marketing psychology books and study as an executive MBA student of strategy marketing.
